Thank you for your interest in adopting from Journey Home Animal Rescue.
Our goal is to adopt pets into forever loving homes to responsible adults. We are an all volunteer ran organization that strives to find a good match for all approved applicants, in hopes to best set both homes and pets up for success. We strictly adhere to our adoption policy to help make this possible. The basic steps are explained below.
Research and plan. Bringing a new pet into your family and home is extremely exciting decision. We want to help prepare you and the pet for success and make sure the decision is well and thought out. Have a plan for what you will do in cases of an emergency, when you are going to vacation, and/or doing obedience classes with your newly adopted pet, etc.
Complete an adoption application. If you have additional questions on pets, its best to fill out an application as this will initiate communication. The adoption application is for your to tell us about yourself and the environment your pet will be living in, and your lifestyle. We would like to know as much as we can to help ensure a good match for a successful, lifelong relationship.
Make sure your pets are current on vaccinations and altered. Ensure with your landlord (if applicable) you are allowed to have a pet. We will carefully review your application, complete background checks, call veterinary references and personal references. We contact your veterinary and personal references to ensure all current and/or deceased pets were properly taken care of, including current on all vaccinations and altered. We require all animals in the home to be either spayed or neutered. Journey Home Animal Rescue reserves the right to deny any applications that we deem unfit or unsuitable for the animal. This process can take up to 10 days at times.
The applicant will be contacted for a home visit by an authorized Journey Home Animal Rescue representative. This is an informal opportunity for us to get to know you and answer additional questions you may have.
After the above steps are completed and processed, you will receive an email of approval or denial. An approved application means you can adopt from Journey Home. It does not always mean you will be adopting the animal applied for.
Adopt! After your application is approved we will arrange to meet the pet and if it's a good match, to adopt. Don't forget a collar, ID tag, leash, and kennel. We love hearing updates on Journey Home adopted pets and will always be available to help answer any questions, make training recommendations, and assist you in providing the forever loving home for your new pet.
Once your application is approved, you will be matched with a rescue from Journey Home Animal Rescue. We want to set up both adopters and pets for success therefore, you are not yet approved for a particular pet until:
1. The foster has communicated with you regarding the pet
2. Everyone in the family, pets included, have met with the pet
If both of the above 2 steps occur without concerns from either party, the adoption of that particular pet is approved. If you need 24-36 hours to discuss as a family and think about the adoption of that particular pet, please do so. We are unable to hold a pet longer than that.
Bringing a new pet into a home is a big commitment. Please be prepared as you are committing to this animal for its entire life. There are no trial adoptions - the pet is yours at the time you sign the contract and submit the adoption fee. Refunds are not given.
As you have applied to adopt and have been approved to adopt, please be prepared prior to adoption with at least a collar, ID tag, leash, kennel and food (ask the foster what food has been working well for the pet).
